OM Holdings: Malaysian smelting facility taps 1st manganese alloy

OM Holdings Ltd. said Dec. 21 that the first modified furnace at its Sarawak ferro-alloy smelting facility in Malaysia has successfully achieved hot commissioning, with the first tap of silicomanganese occurring Dec. 18.

The company intends to continue to modify and boost production at the facility by establishing another five furnaces for manganese alloys through the first half of 2017, bringing potential output to 200,000 tonnes to 250,000 tonnes per annum.

OM Holdings is also working with potential off-takers, with a view to convert one or two furnaces at Sarawak for the production of metallic silicon, subject to necessary approvals.
