Iowa, Minn. co-ops win merger approval from members

Tri-County ElectricCooperative and HawkeyeTri-County Electric Cooperative members have approved the planned merger of the two cooperatives, accordingto an April 11 statement.

Results showed that 90% of the 5,550 Tri-County members and 74%of the 3,382 Hawkeye members who voted were in favor of the merger.

The merger will be effective Jan. 1, 2017, with the combinedentity operating under the name MiEnergy Cooperative. Brian Krambeer, joint CEOat Tri-County and Hawkeye, will continue managing the merged co-op. The seven boarddirectors currently serving each individual cooperative will join together to representmembers of MiEnergy as a 14-member board.

Tri-County serves about 15,000 member-owners in all or part offive counties in Minnesota and three in Iowa, while Hawkeye serves about 6,700 member-ownersin three counties in northeast Iowa.
