AT&T Inc.and Virgin Media Inc.are reportedly planning a return to India's telecommarket, possibly as mobile virtual network operators.
The American telecom giant and the U.K. unit of havereportedly held preliminary discussions about re-entering the country, The Times of India reported May 6,citing top government sources. The recent decision by a government panel toallow MVNOs in India has provided the companies a point of entry.
According to the newspaper, a source said their interestcould be a "precursor to a larger game plan" in India, involving itsspectrum auctions to be held in the second half of the year.
AT&T reportedly declined to comment, while Virgin Mediadid not respond to questions. The companies moved out of India in 2005 and2011, respectively.
