Eastern Platinum Ltd., or Eastplats, posted a resource estimate for the Barplats Zandfontein UG2 tailings storage facility at its past-producing Crocodile River property in South Africa.
The Crocodile River mine has been on care and maintenance since 2013.
The tailings storage facility hosts measured and indicated resources totaling 13.7 million tonnes grading 0.742 g/t of platinum, 0.307 g/t of palladium, 0.169 g/t of rhodium, 0.008 g/t of gold and 20.72% chromium oxide, according to the Aug. 11 statement.
Contained metal includes 535,520 ounces of 3E platinum group elements at an average 1.218 g/t, along with 3,404 ounces of gold and 2.8 million tonnes of chromium oxide.
Eastplats noted that 91.3% of the resource is classified within the higher-confidence measured category, resulting in the recommendation of a pre-feasibility of feasibility study being completed.
The company is assessing various areas of the tailings project at Crocodile River and is working on a feasibility study.
