EDP Renewables secures contract for 50 MW from Texas wind facility

EDP Renewables North America signed a long-term power purchase agreement for 50 MW from its planned Hidalgo II wind farm in Texas.

The project is contiguous with EDP Renewables' existing 250-MW Hidalgo & Starr Wind Farm (Los Mirasoles ) wind facility in Hidalgo County, Texas. Portions of that facility's output are committed under long-term contracts with corporate buyers. EDP Renewables expects to begin operation at the new wind farm in 2019, it said in a May 17 news release.

EDP Renewables has already secured long-term purchase agreements for 1,600 MW of wind energy capacity in the U.S. for projects to be installed in 2016-2020. With the new contracts, the company has contracted 90% of its 3,500-MW targeted global capacity additions for the period.

EDP Renewables is a unit of EDP Renováveis, which is a subsidiary of Portugal-headquartered EDP - Energias de Portugal SA.
