NBCU CEO Steve Burke to retire; head of film, network TV promoted

NBCUniversal Media LLC's head of film and network television will become CEO of the Comcast Corp.-owned media company Jan. 1, 2020, as long-time executive Steve Burke prepares for retirement after the Tokyo Olympics.

Jeff Shell will become CEO of NBCUniversal, reporting to Burke, who will resign from the CEO role and become chairman. Burke plans to retire Aug. 14, 2020. Upon Burke's retirement, Shell will report directly to Brian Roberts, chairman and CEO of Comcast.

Shell's current responsibilities as head of film and network television include oversight of NBC Entertainment, Universal Filmed Entertainment Group, Telemundo and NBCUniversal International.
