Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. teamed up with Japanese paper producer Daio Paper Corp. and baby-goods maker Pigeon Corp. to create and market baby products in China through Alibaba's department stores, shopping malls and online store, the Nikkei Asian Review reported Dec. 7.
Daio Paper and Pigeon will reportedly supply free disposable diapers and toys in kids' sections and breastfeeding rooms at Alibaba-backed department stores and shopping malls. According to the report, customers who like the products can purchase them from Tmall, Alibaba's online platform, by scanning the bar code on the item's tags using their smartphones.
Daio Paper and Pigeon initially provided the products for five children's spaces that Alibaba opened in Beijing and Shanghai in November, the news outlet said. Alibaba reportedly plans to roll out 1,000 similar spaces by 2019 and let the two Japanese companies supply the baby items.
The Nikkei added that the three companies will work together to develop new baby products for the Chinese market.
