Report: Amazon Japan to deliver groceries from Life supermarkets

Amazon.com Inc.'s Japan division will begin selling and delivering groceries from Life Corp. supermarkets in select parts of Tokyo by the end of this year, the Nikkei Asian Review reported May 30 without disclosing its source.

Life operates about 270 stores across Japan, the Nikkei said.

According to the report, customers may order groceries online via the Prime Now delivery service. Life personnel will fulfill the orders at the store and deliver them to the customer in as short as two hours. Delivery fees are not yet finalized, the newspaper said.

Amazon Japan plans to roll out the service to more locations in the future, the report added.

The partnership is expected to add 8,000 more items such as bento boxes, vegetables and Life-branded daily products to Prime Now's current offering of about 35,000 items in Japan, the newspaper said.
