Jaime Cortina, Banco de México's director general of operations and payment systems, intends to step down in the coming weeks after more than 20 years at the central bank, Bloomberg News reported, citing five anonymous sources.

Cortina, who is in charge of the Mexican central bank's international reserves and monetary operations, plans to assume a position at the Bank for International Settlements' office in Mexico City, three of the sources said.

Agustín Carstens, Banco de México's former governor, departed from the central bank in 2017 to become general manager of the Bank for International Settlements.

A number of other top Banco de México officials have left in recent months, including Roberto del Cueto, who was deputy governor; Juan Pablo Graf, who was in charge of financial stability; and Alfonso Guerra, who was responsible for international affairs, Bloomberg noted.

Banco de México's press office declined Bloomberg's request for comment.
