ComcastCorp. unveiled its new enterprise trial venture, machineQ, whichwill focus on building business-to-business services and a platform for theInternet of Things.
Comcast will work with select commercial entities for theuse of its network to help partners gather, transmit and analyze data fromconnected devices within their organizations.
The company will use Semtech Corp.'s LoRa wireless radiofrequency technology to launch network trials in Philadelphia and San Franciscolater in 2016. The trials will focus on enabling use cases like utilitymetering, environmental monitoring and asset tracking via devices and networkservices enabled on the LoRa Technology. Interested organizations andenterprises may contact Comcast, the company said Oct. 5.
Provided the trials are successful, Comcast plans to deployLoRaWAN networks and LoRa-related services across its markets commercially. Thecompany intends to complete commercial deployments within 18 to 30 months.
