U.S. presidential hopeful Sen. Bernie Sanders had an emergency heart procedure Oct. 2 and canceled all campaign events until further notice, multiple news outlets reported, citing a statement from his campaign team.
Sanders said on Twitter that he is good condition following a successful procedure for a blocked artery. His senior adviser, Jeff Weaver, also said earlier that the Democratic senator is "conversing and in good spirits" and will take a rest over the next few days, Reuters reported.
Sanders was at a campaign event in Las Vegas when he experienced chest discomfort and sought medical evaluation, according to the report.
The senator's campaign team has not given any timeline for his recovery and break from the campaign trail.
At 78, Sanders is the oldest among those vying for Democratic nomination for the 2020 presidential election.
In previous campaign events, Sanders pledged to "cancel all student debt" in the U.S., called for a full ban on hydraulic fracturing on both public and private lands, and made public plans to transition U.S. power generation and transportation to renewable sources by 2030.
