Total U.S. nuclear plant availability took a small step back early May 31 to 96.03%, down from 96.42% on May 30 but still much higher than the 88.63% level posted on the same day in 2017.
U.S. output eased following a curtailment at PG&E Corp.'s Diablo Canyon 1 in California. The unit saw production fall from 100% on May 30 to 65% early May 31.
Offsetting the decrease was the return of Dominion Energy Inc.'s Surry 1 in Virginia. The reactor was warming up at 5% early May 31 after being taken offline on April 21 for a refueling outage.
As of early May 31, Nebraska Public Power District's Cooper Nuclear Station in Nebraska and Entergy Corp.'s Grand Gulf 1 in Mississippi remain offline.
