Mitsui Fudosan Co. Ltd. is open to the possibility of setting up a retail outlet in Thailand that will carry its Mitsui Outlet Park brand name, the Bangkok Post reported.
Mitsui Outlet Park is operated by the diversified developer's Mitsui Fudosan Retail Management Co. Ltd. business, the biggest factory outlet operator in Japan, according to the report.
The plan is still in the consideration stage, and Kazuo Iida, Mitsui Fudosan's general manager for tourism sales promotion, was quoted in the July 26 report as saying that the company's main focus is increasing Thai tourists' footfall at Mitsui Outlet Parks in Japan.
Iida added that Thailand is one of the company's "most important" inbound markets, as its outlet parks are visited the most by tourists from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Thailand. The publication added that Iida expects the Southeast Asian country to eclipse Taiwan in terms of outlet visitors "in the near future."
Mitsui Fudosan has 13 outlet malls in 13 cities in Japan; one in Malaysia; and two in Taiwan, one of which is still under development.
