Netflix bags global rights to Spanish TV series

Netflix Inc. and Spanish broadcaster RTVE signed a streaming rights deal for sci-fi series "The Department of Time," Variety reported Dec. 30.

Pursuant to the deal, Netflix will get global streaming rights, outside Spain, to the series. Netflix subscribers will reportedly be able to stream the series after RTVE's core network La 1 completes broadcasting the season in Spain. The third season of the series is set to premiere in Spain in 2017.

Time-travel-themed "The Department of Time" is created by Javier and Pablo Olivares. The series tells the story of a secret state department that has been operational since the 15th century and that lets people go back into the past. The department employees watch the time doors to prevent intruders from both the past and present from time traveling.
