DTE Energy energizes Mich. solar facility

DTE Energy Co. brought online its Lapeer solar project in Michigan. The company began constructing the facility in spring 2016 and installed 200,000 panel arrays across more than 250 acres.

DTE Energy supplies electricity to 450,000 homes from 1,000 MW of renewable energy, with solar power making up 7% of its renewable energy portfolio, according to an Oct. 9 release. Since 2008, the company has invested $170 million in solar projects.

The addition of Lapeer will help DTE exceed a state mandate requiring electric utilities to supply 10% of their electricity from renewable energy sources every year from 2015 to 2029.
