Argentina'snational banking union, Asociación Bancaria, threatened to call another generalstrike before the end of October if banks do not heed its salary demands, Cronista reported, citing a radiointerview with the union's press secretary, Eduardo Berrozpe.
Bankworkers in the union planned to stop work 3 hours earlier than usual Oct. 5 andOct. 6 as a protest to hold meetings across the country. Banks have so farrejected the union's calls for salary renegotiations despite the fact thatinflation has reached 35%, the report said.
Theunion's initial agreement with the banks in April was for a nominalsalary hike of 33%, but this has been exceeded by inflation and so unionmembers argue that a new agreement is necessary.
