Coca-Cola Amatil sells Thebarton bottling plant to local developer

Australia-based Coca-Cola Amatil Ltd. said Oct. 23 that it sold its Port Road Thebarton bottling facility to local developer Australasian Property Developments Pty. Ltd.

The Coca-Cola Co. bottler also sold an adjoining site to industrial supplier Jetwave Pty. Ltd. and a third facility to Anglicare South Australia in 2018.

Financial terms of the transactions were not disclosed.

According to the release, Australasian Property Developments plans to rebuild the main manufacturing lot on Port Road as office space and warehousing, and later for residential use. Meanwhile, Jetwave plans to use their acquired site for industrial activities.

Coca-Cola Amatil operated the Thebarton facility for 66 years and has produced more than 10 billion bottles at the plant, the company said. The soft drinks bottler ceased operations at the plant in December 2018 and relocated production to new or expanded facilities in Western Australia and Queensland.

The company said it worked closely with the employees at the site over an 18-month transition period to help them find new jobs.
