MidAmerican Energy Co. plans to launch a new program allowing customers to claim 47% of the renewable energy they used in 2016.
In its application to the Iowa Utilities Board, the Berkshire Hathaway Inc. subsidiary seeks verification of the annual energy production delivered to its customers from renewable sources, as a percentage of total energy production.
The percentage of renewable energy the MidAmerican customers could claim would gradually increase as the company's $3.6 billion Wind XI project nears completion, according to an April 4 company release.
Under the Wind XI project, MidAmerican will add as much as 2,000 MW of wind power in Iowa to reach its goal of providing 100% renewable energy to its customers.
