Taubman to reopen Hurricane Maria-hit Puerto Rican regional mall

Taubman Centers Inc. said The Mall of San Juan in Puerto Rico, which has been closed since Sept. 19 because of damage caused by Hurricane Maria, will reopen Oct. 19 after several power-related delays.

The mall suffered some interior water damage and exterior damage to landscaping and signage, while the interior common area was "relatively unharmed," the company said, adding that restoration efforts for the affected areas are underway.

Taubman and the mall are launching a yearlong community service program that the company expects will yield more than $100,000 of cash and in-kind support for Puerto Rico. The program will start with donations to five charities on the island.
