Teck Resources reports small spill at Trail smelting plant in British Columbia

Teck ResourcesLtd. subsidiary TeckMetals Ltd. said April 13 that some water containing metals wasspilled at its Trail smelting plant in British Columbia.

The discharge is believed to be caused by a break in a linedistributing runoff water from a landfill to the on-site water treatmentfacility, Teck said. The spill lasted approximately 15 to 20 minutes, with someof the water believed to have spilled into Stoney Creek.

Teck said there is no human health risk due to the spill.

Local paper TrailDaily Times estimates that 90 liters of contaminated runoff water enteredStoney Creek, which runs into the Columbia River.
