Movies Anywhere launches in US with Hollywood studios' backing

Movies Anywhere, a new video content platform that features films from major Hollywood studios and video-on-demand platforms, has launched in the U.S.

The digital service will bring about 7,300 movies from Walt Disney Co.'s Walt Disney Studios, Sony Pictures Entertainment, 21st Century Fox Inc. unit 20th Century Fox Film, Universal Pictures and Time Warner Inc.'s Warner Bros. into a free-to-access app and website upon its launch.

Users will be able to link their accounts on Inc.'s Amazon Video, Google Inc.'s Google Play, Apple Inc.'s iTunes and VUDU Inc. into Movies Anywhere.

The app can be downloaded on various devices, including Amazon Fire, Android devices and Android TV, Apple TV, Chromecast, iPhone, iPad and iPod touch and Roku Inc. devices. The platform can also be accessed on web browsers.
