Newell's Contigo recalls 5.7 million water bottles over choking hazard

Consumer goods maker Newell Brands Inc.'s Contigo brand is recalling about 5.7 million units of Contigo Kids Cleanable Water Bottle over a choking hazard, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Aug. 27.

The commission said the water bottle's clear silicone spout can detach, posing a choking hazard. Contigo has received 149 reports of the spout detaching, including 18 cases where the spout was found in children's mouths.

The affected models were sold at Costco Wholesale Corp., Walmart Inc., Target Corp. and other stores nationwide and online on various websites. The bottles were sold between April 2018 through June 2019.
