FCC May agenda focuses on easing reporting, documentation requirements

The FCC on May 4 released its tentative agenda for its upcomingMay meeting, scheduled for May 25.

The agenda includes three major items, the first one being aproposal that eliminates the requirement that commercial broadcast stations retaincopies of letters and emails from the public in their public inspection file. Theproposal also calls for eliminating a requirement that cable operators reveal thelocation of their cable system's principal headend, which is a facility that receivesand distributes communication signals.

The second item on the agenda centers on updates to the commission'srules requiring operators to report communications network outages.

Finally, the third item will consider a report and order adoptingrules to implement a competitive bidding process to support universal service forPhase II of the Connect America Fund. The fundis used to expand high-speed Internet to consumers living in every part of the country,specifically in rural and less densely populated areas.
