Nuclear update: US output eases with Cooper outage

Total U.S. nuclear plant availability slipped early May 30 to 96.42%, down from 96.80% on May 29 but higher than the 89.02% reported on the same day in 2017.

Pulling down total output was the loss of Nebraska Public Power District's Cooper Nuclear Station in Nebraska. The unit was offline early May 30 from 95% on May 29. The reason for the outage has not been disclosed.

On the other hand, unit 1 at Entergy Corp.'s Arkansas Nuclear One plant was pegged at 97% early May 30, rising from 69% on May 29.

Entergy's Grand Gulf 1 in Mississippi and Dominion Energy Inc.'s Surry 1 in Virginia were also offline as of early May 30.
