Report: Aditya Birla Fashion in talks to open American Eagle stores in India

Indian apparel maker Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Ltd. is in advanced talks with American Eagle Outfitters Inc. to open standalone outlets of the U.S. teen apparel brand in India, two people familiar with the matter told The Economic Times.

The newspaper reported Aug. 7 that the retailer is looking to offer American Eagle apparel online and in stores as part of its drive to form partnerships with foreign brands. It also reportedly secured an agreement to open the first Saks Fifth Avenue Inc. store in New Delhi.

An Aditya Birla Fashion spokesperson told The Economic Times that it does not comment on market speculation, while American Eagle did not respond to an email seeking comment.
