Report: Netflix, Dutch broadcaster fail to agree on co-production deal

Netflix Inc.'s co-production partnership with Dutch public broadcaster NPO has been shelved after both sides could not agree on one of the deal's terms, Telecompaper reported, citing sources mentioned by NRC.

The streaming giant and NPO were in deadlock over broadcast windows, which determine the type and frequency of content each party will broadcast. Netflix reportedly alleged that NPO wanted to follow its own rules for broadcasting rights.

Under the proposed tie-up, Netflix agreed to air five NPO drama series on its platform over the coming months. Netflix, NPO and their partner production companies would each account for one-third of the content investments, totaling about €25 million.

Netflix has been focused on expanding its roster of European content amid expectations of tougher competition from new streaming entrants, such as Apple Inc.'s Apple TV+ and Walt Disney Co.'s Disney+.
