Implats: Rockfall kills one at Rustenburg shaft in South Africa

A rockfall incident at Impala Platinum Holdings Ltd.'s Rustenburg 20 shaft in South Africa killed one worker and injured another, Mining Weekly reported Jan. 18, citing a company spokesperson, Johan Theron.

The company has closed the shaft pending investigation into the incident, Theron added.

Meanwhile, the National Union of Mineworkers has called upon South Africa's Department of Mineral Resources to fully investigate the incident, claiming it was the fourth incident on the platinum belt since the start of this year.
