Bangladeshi regulator bars IPTV, VOD services

The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission ordered the country's internet service providers to immediately suspend IPTV and video-on-demand services, The Daily Star reported Oct. 10.

The regulator is threatening legal action against ISPs that do not follow the directive. IPTV and VOD services were introduced by some ISPs in Bangladesh last year and reportedly had been growing in popularity, particularly in urban areas.

Bangladesh currently has no official guidelines for such services, but the BTRC claimed that its licensing standards do not allow ISPs to offer them, according to the report.
