United Co.RUSAL Plc and SAUER GmbH have signed a memorandum of understandingto develop 3-D printing technology for industrial use on aluminum and aluminumalloys, according to a July 6 press release.
The technology will be used to print aluminum parts appliedby customers in the machinery-producing, aerospace and automotive sectors.
RUSAL will develop aluminum alloys for their conversion intopowders which will then be tested and qualified by a SAUER equipment. SAUERwill also support the set up of new production and promote the products madeusing the new technology among its clients.
The parties will also jointly assess the quality ofaluminum, aluminum alloys and powders produced for 3-D printing.
"The key benefit of 3-D printing technology is itsability to make industrial parts of any shape and complexity that cannot beproduced using conventional means. With this technology, we can produce uniqueprototypes over a very short period of time," said Alexey Arnautov,RUSAL's director for new projects.
