Pa. permitting slowed 5% YOY; USGS triples estimate of Utica Shale's gas

Despite September uptick, Pa. permitting slowed 5% YOY

While Pennsylvania issued 27% more permits for new shale wells in September than it did in August, September permitting was 5% below the same month last year, according to the latest state data. EQT Corp., the nation's largest gas producer by volume, Range Resources Corp. and supermajor Chevron Corp. pulled 73 permits in the southwest corner of the state, 57% of the state's total.

US Geological Survey triples estimate of Utica Shale's gas, doubles oil

The U.S. Geological Survey more than tripled its estimate of recoverable oil and natural gas in Ohio and Pennsylvania's Utica Shale on Oct. 3. The agency said technological advances by horizontal drillers make more resources available than in previous estimates. The USGS now estimates the undiscovered, technically recoverable oil and gas in the Utica at 1.8 billion barrels of oil and 117.2 Tcf of gas, compared to its previous 2012 estimate of 1 billion barrels of oil and 38 Tcf of gas.

Enterprise secures deals to further expand Midland to ECHO crude oil pipe system

Enterprise Products Partners LP, through its subsidiary M2E4 LLC, entered long-term agreements for the further expansion of its Midland to ECHO crude oil pipeline system. The expansion would help Enterprise's existing Seminole Red pipeline switch between crude oil and natural gas liquids transportation service.

Antero Resources appoints 2 directors

Appalachian shale driller Antero Resources Corp. named Vicky Sutil and Tom Tyree as class III and class I directors, respectively. Their appointments took effect Oct. 7, according to an Oct. 8 news release.
