Subsea 7 tapped for work on Shell project offshore Scotland

Offshore services provider Subsea 7 SA was awarded a contract by Royal Dutch Shell PLC for work at the Pierce depressurization project offshore east Aberdeen, Scotland.

The contract covers engineering, procurement, construction, transportation and installation of a 30-kilometer gas export pipeline, a gas export riser and associated subsea infrastructure for tie-ins at the Haewene Brim floating production storage and offloading vessel, according to an Oct. 4 news release from Subsea 7.

The contract is valued between $50 million and $150 million.

Offshore activities are slated in 2020 and 2021, while project management and detailed engineering have begun in Aberdeen.

The award comes a day after Shell subsidiary Shell U.K. Ltd. and its partner Ithaca Energy Ltd. unit Ithaca Energy UK Ltd. announced a final investment decision on the project, which is expected to have a peak production of 30,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.

Shell holds a 92.52% stake in the project, while Ithaca Energy owns the remaining 7.48% interest.
