Lear to close Canada plant after union rejects deal

Car seat-maker Lear Corp. will close its seating plant in Ajax, Ontario, due to an ongoing workers strike, Automotive News reported, citing a letter tweeted by Canadian trade union Unifor.

The plant's 320 employees have been on strike since April 28 over disagreements on wages and benefits. Unifor and Lear struck a tentative deal this week, but it was later rejected by 94% of workers.

Unifor President Jerry Dias is confident that Lear will return to the negotiating table because of pressure from Fiat Chrysler to supply seats.
