About 2.5 million Public Service Electric and Gas Co. customers may be affected by a potential data breach involving the systems of TIO Networks Corp.
TIO Networks, a PayPal Holdings Inc. subsidiary, processed payments made at automated kiosks in Public Service Electric and Gas', or PSE&G's, walk-in customer service centers between 2012 and 2017. It also facilitated payments made by the utility's customers at third-party payment centers, PSE&G said Dec. 12.
Customer information that may have been compromised includes utility account numbers and addresses, as well as personal checking account numbers and routing numbers for customers paying via kiosk at one of PSE&G's customer service centers. "We continue to work with PayPal and TIO Networks as they continue to investigate and to gain additional information about how our customers may be affected," said Greg Dunlap, vice president of customer operations.
Duke Energy Carolinas LLC previously also announced a potential customer data breach also involving TIO Networks.
PSE&G is a subsidiary of Public Service Enterprise Group Inc. Duke Energy Carolinas is a subsidiary of Duke Energy Corp.
