Rakuten partners with consulting firm to build vacation homes

Japanese online services company Rakuten Inc. on Dec. 15 said its vacation rental arm Rakuten Lifull Stay Inc. reached an agreement with HyAS&Co. Inc. to create a brand of houses for vacation rental purposes.

The partnership between Rakuten and the real estate and housing consulting firm will combine now-existing home brands from both companies to form a joint brand, "Rakuten Stay House x Will Style."

Rakuten STAY is a sub-brand being developed by Lifull that provides vacation rental branding and offers the operational support services of Rakuten. Will Style is a designer home brand by HyAS.

The joint brand will have a unicube design to allow two houses and four parking spaces to fit in a 182-square-meter lot.

The two companies said their goal is to create "detached house-style accommodations in an effort to counter the contraction currently seen in the Japanese housing industry, which has seen a decline in the number of new house orders."
