Yakult Honsha fiscal Q1 profit climbs 40.3% YOY

Yakult Honsha Co. Ltd. said its normalized net income for the fiscal first quarter ended June 30 came to ¥39.26 per share, an increase of 40.3% from ¥27.99 per share in the year-earlier period.

Normalized net income, which excludes unusual gains or losses on a pre- and after-tax basis, was ¥6.49 billion, a gain of 40.3% from ¥4.63 billion in the year-earlier period.

The normalized profit margin climbed to 6.9% from 5.1% in the year-earlier period.

Total revenue grew year over year to ¥94.48 billion from ¥90.62 billion, and total operating expenses climbed year over year to ¥84.50 billion from ¥83.37 billion.

Reported net income increased 46.6% on an annual basis to ¥8.04 billion, or ¥48.61 per share, from ¥5.48 billion, or ¥33.18 per share.

As of Aug. 10, US$1 was equivalent to ¥109.48.
