UN General Assembly to meet on Trump's Jerusalem decision

The United Nations General Assembly will meet Dec. 21 to vote on a draft resolution urging U.S. President Donald Trump to withdraw his decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital, Palestinian U.N. envoy Riyad Mansour told Reuters.

Arab and Muslim states called for the U.N. General Assembly to hold a rare emergency special session following a U.S. veto of a Security Council resolution Dec. 18 calling for a reversal of the decision, Reuters reported.

The meeting will be the General Assembly's 11th emergency session and the first since 2009.

Mansour said Dec. 18 that he hoped for an "overwhelming support" in the General Assembly for the resolution, which is nonbinding but politically significant, according to Reuters.
