Zee News goes free-to-air in India

major news channel Zee News has converted from apay channel to a free-to-air channel, Television Post reported May 6.

The decision to convert was reportedly taken at a boardmeeting. Channels of Zee Media Corp. Ltd. will be distributed by sister companyZee Entertainment EnterprisesLtd. ZMCL has a distribution arrangement with Taj Television India,a wholly owned subsidiary of ZEEL, where ZMCL will share a 7% subscriptionrevenue to ZEEL as a commission for distributing its channels.

ZMCL owns and operates 10 news channels in six differentlanguages, attracting more than 119 million viewers. It also owns Englishnewspaper DNA and digital properties such as zeenews.com and dnaindia.com.
