Kansai Electric Power swings to profit in fiscal Q3

Kansai Electric Power Co. said its normalized net income for the fiscal third quarter ended Dec. 31, 2015, amounted to ¥2.94 per share, compared with a loss of ¥55.69 per share in the year-earlier period.

Normalized net income, which excludes unusual gains or losses on a pre- and after-tax basis, was ¥2.63 billion, compared with a loss of ¥49.76 billion in the prior-year period.

The normalized profit margin rose to 0.4% from negative 6.3% in the year-earlier period.

Total revenue decreased 6.8% on an annual basis to ¥739.60 billion from ¥793.23 billion, and total operating expenses declined 14.9% year over year to ¥735.02 billion from ¥864.13 billion.

Reported net income came to a loss of ¥194.0 million, or a loss of 22 sen per share, compared with a loss of ¥69.28 billion, or a loss of ¥77.54 per share, in the year-earlier period.

As of Feb. 10, US$1 was equivalent to ¥114.87.
