Earthport obtains NY money transmitter license

U.K.-based cross-border payment service provider Earthport PLC, through its Earthport North America Inc. unit, obtained a money transmitter license from New York state, effective Feb. 15.

The license allows the firm to offer wire transfers, foreign-currency dealing and exchanging, and bill payments, among other services, from New York to other parts of the world. It would also authorize Earthport to provide foreign-exchange services, subject to several state restrictions.

Interim CEO Phil Hickman said Earthport plans to acquire additional U.S. state licenses for further expansion in the country.
