Amazon.com Inc. said Aug. 9 that it has launched a software development kit for car manufacturers to integrate its voice assistant, Alexa, into in-vehicle infotainment systems.
Through the Alexa Auto SDK, carmakers will be able to add thousands of Alexa functionalities, including speech recognition and synthesis, streaming media, smart home devices control, notifications and weather reports to vehicle infotainment systems.
In addition, the software development kit will provide car manufacturers with hooks to generate their own "wake word" and will add features such as native calling, local searches, local navigation system and local media player to the Alexa-powered infotainment system.
