Paringa Resources unit gets zoning change for coal loading facility in Kentucky

A zoning change that will allow Hartshorne Mining Group to operate a coal loading facility on the Green River in Kentucky was approved Dec. 19.

The McLean County Fiscal Court unanimously approved the request to reclassify a 22-acre parcel owned by E.T. Woosley Farms LLC from agricultural to industrial despite some contention from the owner of a neighboring property, the McLean County News reported Dec. 21.

Hartshorne, a unit of Australia's Paringa Resources Ltd., plans to mine and process coal at the Semiway site, where the Poplar Grove mine is located. The facility will receive coal by truck from Semiway, which will be transloaded from the trucks onto river barges on the Green River.

The company also told the magistrates that construction at the Poplar Grove coal mine is on schedule and on budget.
