Blue Buffalo Q3 profit climbs YOY

Blue Buffalo Pet Products Inc. said its normalized net income for the third quarter came to 14 cents per share, compared with the S&P Capital IQ consensus estimate of 14 cents per share.

EPS climbed year over year from 14 cents.

Normalized net income, which excludes unusual gains or losses on a pre- and after-tax basis, was $28.7 million, an increase from $28.3 million in the prior-year period.

The normalized profit margin fell to 11.1% from 12.1% in the year-earlier period.

Total revenue increased 10.5% year over year to $259.4 million from $234.8 million, and total operating expenses climbed 12.8% from the prior-year period to $209.8 million from $186.0 million.

Reported net income came to $27.8 million, or 14 cents per share, compared to $27.7 million, or 14 cents per share, in the year-earlier period.
