Amazon.com Inc. is assembling a U.K. content team dubbed Amazon Studios UK, as part of plans to create more original content, Broadcast reported Jan. 19.

The London-based team, expected to start working by the second quarter, is aimed at getting top talent for producing original series out of the U.K., according to Morgan Wandell, head of international productions at Amazon unit Amazon Studios. He said the team will focus on developing shows along the lines of "Catastrophe" for Channel 4 (UK) and "Fleabag" for the British Broadcasting Corp.'s digital platform BBC Three.

Amazon earlier launched fashion-themed drama series "The Collection" in the U.K. in September 2016, which, Wandell said, was more of a co-production deal.
