American Express makes changes to Gold Card

American Express Co. is offering a new version of its Premier Rewards Gold Card, called American Express Gold Card.

The new card's rewards program will focus on food and travel, but consumers will no longer earn rewards on purchases made at gas stations in the U.S.

The annual fee, however, was increased to $250 from $195. For current Premier Rewards Gold Card members, the increased fee will be effective April 1, 2019.

The card will have a new metal design and customers may request a limited edition rose gold version through Jan. 9, 2019.
