Kyocera to buy Germany-based Friatec's advanced ceramics business

Kyocera Corp.'s German arm KYOCERA Fineceramics GmbH agreed to acquire the advanced ceramics business of FRIATEC GmbH for an undisclosed amount.

Based in Germany, Friatec is a manufacturer of ceramic and plastic components. Kyocera intends to expand its fine ceramics business via local production and sales.

The acquisition is expected to close in autumn, subject to regulatory approvals.

The announcement follows Kyocera's deal in February to acquire H.C. Starck Ceramics GmbH, a German manufacturer of advanced ceramics components. The deal gave Kyocera its first fine ceramic manufacturing facility in Europe, positioning it to meet rising demand for fine ceramic components used in industrial machinery.

Kyocera is a manufacturer of ceramic and electronic components, and telecommunications and information equipment.
