SoCalGas lifts gas conservation advisory

Southern California Gas Co. revoked the advisory it issued to customers on cutting natural gas consumption due to a heightened risk of shortages in the winter months, effective immediately.

The advisory, which also included a system-wide curtailment watch to noncore customers, is part of a program by the California Public Utilities Commission to address regional energy reliability concerns, exacerbated by the moratorium on injections at SoCalGas' Aliso Canyon facility, according to a Dec. 20 news release.

Still, the utility maintains that conservation should be part of customers' daily routines. "As we lift the Advisory, I want to remind our customers that it is very early in the winter season, and with the limited availability of Aliso Canyon, we may face more of these types of challenges this winter," said Lisa Alexander, vice president for customer solutions and communications.
