Indian bank unions call off strike

A planned Dec. 27 strike by employees at Indian public sector banks has been postponed, according to Dec. 26 filings by various government-run lenders.

The strike had been planned by the All India Bank Employees Association and the All India Bank Officers Association in support of staff at IDBI Bank Ltd. over a five-year delay in implementing wage revisions, the Press Trust of India reported the same day.

IDBI Bank's management has assured AIBEA that the wage issue will be resolved within a month, which prompted the unions to defer the strike, the PTI said, citing AIBEA General Secretary C.H. Venkatachalam.
