Disney to shutter Infinity gaming initiative

is discontinuingproduction of its DisneyInfinity gaming initiative.

The unit's finalretail releases will include three new characters from "Alice Through theLooking Glass" later in May and a "Finding Dory" play set whichwill launch in June, John Blackburn, senior vice president and general managerat Disney Infinity, wrote in a May 10 post on the Disney Interactive blog.

The companyrecorded charges of $147 million related to the discontinuation of Infinity forthe quarter ended April 2, according to a Form 10-Q filed the same day. Thecharges are mainly due to an inventory write-down, but also include severanceand other asset impairment charges. Disney Infinity is reported in thecompany's consumer products and interactive media segment.  

DisneyInfinity, a game platform which allows users to create stories and playexperiences starring their favorite characters from Disney and its brands, wasunveiled in January2013.
