Botswana Diamonds PLC extended two diamond prospecting licences located in the Kalahari desert in Botswana and reported it was in "extended" discussions with a major diamond producer to partner on the next phase of the licences.
The drill-ready licenses cover over 500 square kilometers and are held by the Ireland-based company's Sunland Minerals (Pty.) Ltd. subsidiary, which holds prospecting licenses in the Orapa Regional and Kalahari areas of Botswana.
Botswana Diamonds said Aug. 22 that the licenses were renewed for another two years to Sept. 30, 2021.
The company's former Sunland joint venture partner, PJSC Alrosa, formally exited the agreement in November 2018. Later that year, Botswana Diamonds Managing Director James Campbell said the company was in negotiations with a major diamond producer over a partnership on the Sunland venture.
