PECO to invest $274M to reinforce electric system

PECO Energy Co. is investing an additional $274 million through 2020 to install advanced equipment and reinforce its local electric system.

This investment is intended to make the utility's system more weather resistant and less vulnerable to storm damage, according to a Dec. 13 news release.

During the third quarter, the Exelon Corp. subsidiary completed more than 1,800 system enhancement projects as part of its efforts to provide reliable electric and natural gas service to its customers.

PECO Energy finished more than 1,700 projects, which include equipment inspections, repairs and replacements and preventive maintenance on its natural gas transmission and distribution system. The company also completed more than 120 projects, which include advanced equipment installation and preventive maintenance, on its electric system.

PECO has more than 1.6 million electric customers and more than 516,000 natural gas customers in southeastern Pennsylvania.
